In June 2025, the Oberig General Clinic successfully performed the Total Body Irradiation (TBI) procedure — full body irradiation, which is one of the key stages in preparation for bone marrow transplantation in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
This is the first use of TBI in our state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy Center, and it has become a true example of the well-coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team.
It should be noted that the total body irradiation (TBI) procedure is quite risky for the patient's life if an error in calculations occurs during planning or the equipment or its software does not work correctly during the procedure. That is why total body irradiation requires deep knowledge, experience of a team of radiologists and medical physicists, and ideal operation of the linear accelerator. The team of the Radiation Therapy Center succeeded in this — the patient completed the course of treatment and has an encouraging prognosis for recovery.
TBI (total body irradiation) is a type of radiation therapy that irradiates the entire patient's body. This method is used as a preparation stage for bone marrow transplantation, in particular in the treatment of diseases such as lymphoblastic leukemia. The procedure was performed on a modern TrueBeam STx VARIAN linear accelerator using RapidArc (VMAT) technology, which allows for the most accurate and safe delivery of the radiation dose even with large volumes of the irradiated area.
The imaginary simplicity of the session is the result of a lot of complex work:
•💠 Individual planning of radiation therapy taking into account the characteristics of the patient's body;
•💠 Careful calculation of the radiation dose to ensure uniform exposure throughout the body;
•💠 Teamwork of radiotherapists, medical physicists, oncohematologists and technologists;
•💠 Multi-stage testing, modeling and adjustment of equipment for maximum accuracy.
We adhere to the philosophy:
🔹 Complex must be precise,
🔹 High-tech - accessible,
🔹 and always - without compromise on quality.
In our clinic, radiation therapy for lymphoblastic leukemia is carried out as part of a comprehensive treatment and includes modern approaches that comply with international protocols. After TBI, the patient has already undergone a transplant - successfully. The post-irradiation condition is stable.
The entire procedure, including promenade therapy, was free for the patient.
