Patient Memo: Preparing for a Surgical Procedure

Dear Patient! The medical staff at Oberig Clinic will make every effort to ensure your surgical procedure is effective and safe, and your stay in the clinic is as comfortable as possible.

However, the quality of your preparation for the surgery depends on you. We kindly ask you to carefully review the basic preparation rules and diligently follow all our recommendations.

Before Your Scheduled Surgical Procedure

Step 1. Complete the necessary pre-operative examination. The laboratory and instrumental tests, the scope of which was determined by your doctor, must be completed within the specified time frame.

Step 2. If the surgical procedure is to be performed under general anesthesia, you must schedule a consultation with an anesthesiologist. After receiving the results of your preliminary pre-operative tests (Step 1), please call 044 521 30 03 to schedule a consultation with an anesthesiologist. It is crucial that the consultation with the anesthesiologist takes place no later than 2-3 days before the scheduled date of the surgery.

Step 3. Be sure to inform your doctor about all medications (including dietary supplements, herbal preparations, etc.) that you are taking. If necessary, the doctor may advise you to consult your family or specialist physician to discuss the regimen of your regular medications for the period of preparation for the surgical procedure. It is essential that you do this! Also, inform the anesthesiologist about this during your consultation.

Step 4. Two days before the surgery, limit the consumption of coarse and "heavy" foods that cause bloating: legumes, cabbage, apples, grapes, other fresh vegetables and fruits, milk, and fermented products. Do not fast or overeat on the eve of the surgery. There are no restrictions on fluid intake!

Step 5. Try to avoid stressful situations. If you play sports, please refrain from physical activity for at least one day before the surgery date.

Before Hospitalization (on the eve of the surgery)

  • Exclude alcohol consumption and limit smoking one day before the surgery.

  • The last meal on the eve of the surgery should be no later than 12 hours before the scheduled surgical procedure.

  • The meal should be light (soups, fermented dairy products, etc.). It is important not to limit yourself in drinking water on the day before the surgery to avoid dehydration.

  • In the evening, empty your bowels. Use a cleansing enema (ready-made micro-enemas, such as Normacol, are available) or take a known laxative in advance according to the instructions.

  • Hospitalization for patients from other cities in Ukraine, who are scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia, takes place the evening before, until 7:00 PM.

Patients from Kyiv may be hospitalized on the day of the surgical procedure.

ATTENTION! We emphasize the need to arrive at the clinic on time — this will allow us to carry out the necessary preparations for your surgery and adhere to the strict schedule of planned surgical procedures. We count on your punctuality and respect for other patients and the work of the medical staff.

On the Day of the Surgery

Step 1. Do not consume any food or liquids!!! Do not use chewing gum.

Step 2. Take a hygienic shower and perform all your usual hygienic procedures.
