Patient Instructions for Abdominal Ultrasound Preparation

Dietary Restrictions (2-3 days prior to the examination):

Exclude foods that cause bloating and gas from your diet, such as:

  • Fresh rye (black) bread

  • Raw vegetables and fruits

  • Legumes (beans, peas, lentils)

  • Milk and dairy products

  • Juices and carbonated beverages

Medication:

It is mandatory to take Espumisan (2-3 tablets per day), along with digestive enzyme supplements and activated charcoal.

On the Eve and Day of the Examination:

  • Have a light dinner no later than 7:00 PM the night before.

  • Arrive for the examination in the morning on an empty stomach.

  • Do not drink any liquids.

  • If a morning appointment is not possible, you may have a light breakfast at least 8 hours before the procedure. Still water is permitted in this case.

Guidelines for Children (Fast before the exam):

  • Under 1 year: Do not feed for 3-4 hours prior (including pyloric stomach exams).

  • 1 to 4 years: Do not feed for 4 hours prior.

  • 4 to 12 years: Do not feed for 6 hours prior.

  • 12 years and older: Do not feed for 8 hours prior.

Special Requirements:

  • Liver Elastography: You must bring a referral note with your diagnosis and liver function test results from the last 3 months.

  • Renal Vessels, Portal Vein, Aorta, and Branches: A bowel cleansing (enema, e.g., Normacol) must be performed before the procedure.
