Densitometry

Density scan, or osteodensitometry, is a non-invasive X-ray examination that measures bone tissue density and is a cornerstone in the diagnosis of osteoporosis—a disease that makes bones brittle and prone to fractures.

Thanks to modern equipment at the Oberig clinic, densitometry is performed using the "gold standard" method—dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

The diagnostic value of densitometry in improving patients' quality of life

• Early detection of osteopenia and osteoporosis before fractures occur.

Who is recommended to undergo densitometry:

1. Women aged 65 and older.

2. Women in postmenopause; with early menopause; prolonged amenorrhea; hormonal disorders.

3. Men aged 70 and older.

4. People who have risk factors for low bone mass:

• Low body weight.

• A history of fractures.

• A family history of osteoporosis.

• The presence of diseases or conditions that lead to bone tissue loss (e.g., primary or secondary hypogonadism).

• Long-term use of certain medications, such as corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, diuretics, or anti-epileptic drugs.

• Painless and fast — the procedure takes only 5 minutes.

• Accuracy — allows for precise assessment of bone mineral density.

• Low radiation dose — significantly less than a standard X-ray.

• Early detection of osteoporosis — even before fractures or symptoms appear.

• The patient's permissible weight is 150 kilograms.

How to be prepared to densitometry
