This is a benign neoplasm that develops from the membranes of the brain, less often from the vascular plexuses of the ventricles of the GM. Meningiomas deform the GM, displace and compress its structures, disrupting their work.
Depending on the localization, convexity meningiomas, basal meningiomas (anterior, middle, posterior cranial fossa), meningiomas of the sickle process (falx meningiomas), meningiomas of the tent of the cerebellum are distinguished. Falx meningiomas can have bilateral growth: both in the right and in the left hemisphere.
Clinical manifestations of meningoma depend on the location, and have general brain - headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, vertigo, and focal symptoms, such as movement disorders in the limbs, epileptic seizures, impaired smell, impaired vision, impaired gait, unilateral tinnitus .
When a meningioma is detected, planned surgical treatment is carried out - microsurgical removal of the neoplasm, during which it is highly desirable to remove the so-called "growth zones" of meningiomas. Features of the development of meningiomas include intensive arterial blood supply, which requires surgical care and skill. It is worth taking into account the risk of complications of meningioma in the form of hemorrhages.
Depending on the results of the histological examination (especially for the group of atypical meningiomas, which are prone to recurrence), the patient will need either dynamic observation with CT / MRI control, or radiation therapy (according to indications).
The prognosis is favorable with timely application for specialized help.
