Currently, immunotherapy is called one of the most promising methods of cancer treatment. We have been working on this for more than 100 years.
In 2011, the drug for the treatment of melanoma proved its effectiveness. In 2018, immunologist James Alison received the Nobel Prize for a class of drugs called "checkpoint inhibitors." These drugs help in the treatment of cancer of the skin, lungs, blood, etc., stimulating the human immune system not to stop destroying cancer cells.
T-cell immune chimeric antigen receptor therapy is another major step in this direction. Genetic engineers convert a patient's immune cells into those capable of killing cancer cells.
The next step in these studies is to use cancer vaccines that will " activate ”tumor cells so as to make them more visible to the immune system.
