Indications for MRI of eye orbits

MRI of the eye orbits is prescribed by an ophthalmologist, a combustiologist, and maxillofacial plastic surgeons. This examination allows you to assess the state of the visual apparatus and optic nerves, the state of blood supply to the structures of the visual system.  Indications for MRI of the eye orbits are the following clinical situations:

  • inflammation of the eye and neighboring tissues;
  • injuries of the eye, bones of the facial skull and orbit in particular;
  • entry of foreign particles into the eye;
  • probable tumor of the eye or retrobulbar space;
  • optic nerve atrophy;
  • signs of retinal detachment;
  • pain in the eyes;
  • a sharp decrease in visual acuity.
