About the center

The Center for Liver, Pancreas Surgery, and Transplantation at Oberig Universal Clinic is the only structural unit of a private medical institution in Ukraine that performs organ transplantation surgeries.

Oberig Clinic is the absolute leader in Ukraine in the number of liver transplantations performed. As of 01.03.2026, 212 liver transplantations have been performed on adults and children, 205 of which were from a living related donor. The team of transplant surgeons possesses unique skills in performing transplantations on children as young as 2 months old with congenital defects of the liver and biliary tract. Transplant surgeons led by the Head of the Center, Professor Kotenko O.H., performed a liver transplantation on the child with the lowest body weight in the world — 5.3 kg. Patient survival results are comparable to the best world centers — over 85%.

Liver disease treatment by transplantation is performed at Oberig Clinic free of charge for patients under an agreement with the NHSU (National Health Service of Ukraine).

Liver transplantation from a living related donor, which lasts from 15 to 20 hours, is provided by a multidisciplinary team consisting of 5 transplant surgeons, a vascular surgeon, 4 anesthesiologists, an ultrasound diagnostics physician, a pathomorphologist (the team includes 1 Doctor of Sciences, 4 Candidates of Medical Sciences, 1 Honored Doctor of Ukraine) and experienced nurses. Transplant surgeons of the Center for Liver, Pancreas Surgery, and Transplantation annually participate in international congresses (2024 — Houston, USA), and in 2025 — they will undergo internships at leading transplant centers in the USA and Europe (France, Belgium).
