Densitometry - preparation
Densitometry does not require complex preparation, but there are a few simple recommendations that should be followed to obtain accurate results:
1. Do not take calcium supplements 24 hours before the examination
— Calcium can affect the results, especially if the lumbar spine or pelvis is being examined.
2. Tell your doctor or radiologist if:
- You are pregnant or there is a possibility of this.
- You have undergone other examinations with contrast (CT, MRI, barium X-ray) in the last 7 days.
- You have metal implants or endoprostheses (important for correct interpretation of the results).
3. On the day of the examination:
- You can eat and drink, densitometry does not require fasting.
- Clothing should be without metal elements (buttons, zippers, belts, underwired bras, etc.).
- It is advisable to wear comfortable, soft clothing or have the opportunity to change into a medical gown.
The examination lasts about 10–20 minutes, is completely painless and does not require a recovery period afterwards.
