Indications for MRI of the nasal sinuses
MRI of the nasal sinuses is prescribed by an otolaryngologist, dentist or maxillofacial surgeon. This study visualizes the condition of the accessory sinuses of the noma - hollow spaces of the facial skull, located in the middle part of the face between the lower arc of the eye orbit and the upper edge of the upper jaw. Indications for MRI of paranasal sinuses are the following clinical situations:
- inflammatory processes in this area
- need for differential diagnosis between inflammatory processes in the sinuses and hemorrhage in the sinuses;
- allergic diseases with swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasal sinuses;
- suspicion of fungal lesions of the nasal sinuses;
- suspicion of malignant processes in the sinuses;
- suspicion of the presence of cysts with abnormal growth / contents of the sinus;
- search for the causes of headache with an unknown etiology to exclude intranasal pathology.
